Multicultural Resource Center
The Multicultural Resource Center addresses issues of sustainability through its mission to create an environment in which individuals can learn to respect and appreciate cultural diversity. MRC consults with faculty members to develop cultural components in curriculum, supports student organizations, and sponsors multicultural education seminars. In addition to promoting social responsibility, MRC exhibits environmental responsibility by implementing the following practices:
- Powering down ALL office equipment including computers, monitors, printers, copiers, scanner, etc. upon leaving the office in the evening and when leaving the office for more than 30 minutes.
- Turning off lights when leaving work areas. Motion sensors are installed in staff offices, kitchen, workroom, etc. but staff are encouraged to turn off lights anyway as the automatic features keep lights on for 20 minutes after leaving the room.
- Duplex printing and implementing margin expansion.
- Using reusable dinnerware, flatware and glasses, which are either brought from home or purchased at garage sales for use in our kitchen.
- Recycling everything that the Environmental Stewardship Program will accept. MRC has bins for office pak, plastic, glass, newspaper, as well as a bin under the front desk for items that are collected less frequently such as chipboard, glass, cardboard.
- Reusing paper that is in the recycling bin for scratch paper, reprinting on the back side for personal files.
- Purchasing recycled content products through Corporate Express whenever possible.
- Designing a brochure for the office that let's people know they are making a conscious effort to be greener. The brochure is printed in small runs to reduce waste and encourages readers to return or recycle the brochure when they are finished looking at it.
- Reclaimed wood was used to contruct the front desk and benches in front of the building.
