Student Organizations


There are a number of student organizations that are working to make our campus, community, and planet a more sustainable place to be. Check out one of these organizations or find others through Student Involvement and Leadership. (* = Updated for 2009-2010)

AIESEC*

To promote positive change in the world though the international exchange of individuals and perspectives.

All Scholarship Hall Council*

The All Scholarship Hall Council is a representative organization of the twelve Scholarship Halls. Its members recognize the unique advantages of the Scholarship Hall system and hope to foster a spirit of cooperation in which common interests are developed, problems are resolved, and goals are realized.

Alternative Energy Society*

The goal of the AES is to educate the community on the wide spectrum of energy options that are available to address our energy needs. Specifically, this translates to advocacy for a more intelligent and responsible use of energy.

American Institute of Architecture Students*
Contact: Peter Broeder
Organization in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning that focuses on the relationship of students and the professional world of Architecture. It is a great way to meet professionals, other students, and do community service in the community.

American Society of Civil Engineers*

KU ASCE is a student chapter of the professional society, dedicated to enriching engineering students' curriculum, establishing networking with professionals and students, and providing an enjoyable social atmosphere through related meetings, projects and activities, community service, and competitions such as Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge.

Architectural Engineering Institute

AEI meets once a month to discuss current issues in the architectural engineering field. We participate in community events, talk to mentors in our field and socialize with others in our major.

Association of University Residence Halls*

The mission of AURH is to encourage, motivate, and challenge all residents to exceed to their personal potential by providing diverse opportunities for leadership, social interaction and self-growth. Activities serve the University and the surrounding communities.

Biology Club, KU

The purpose of the KUBioClub is to enhance the learning environment of University students by providing a forum for students who strive to learn more about the biological sciences through speakers, community service, and increased interaction with peers and faculty.

Corporate Accountability International*

To inform students on corporate abuse issues and work to stop these abuses by working through KU administrators and Lawrence and Kansas policy makers.

Delta Force*

Delta Force is a student organization dedicated to creating a positive impact on the KU community and to empowering the student body to make change. This semester they are focusing on issues of sustainability and sexual health around campus.

EARTH

EARTH works in areas whose natural environments need repair or protection, such as the KU Campus Garden. EARTH educates and provide opportunities for service and direct action to improve the environment. They are a program of the KU Center for Community Outreach

EcoHawks, KU*

Through the use of theory and practical implementation, a diverse group of engineering students strive to build an environmentally and socially conscious vehicle.

Emerging Green Builders*

Emerging Green Builders is a coalition of students and young professionals intent on promoting the integration of future leaders into the green building movement. Their mission is to create a network of emerging green building leaders and develop opportunities for involvement through the US Green Building Council to further generate momentum for the green building industry.

Engineers Without Borders (EWB)*

EWB is a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationally responsible engineers and engineering students.

Environs, KU*

Environs is a KU student organization which promotes awareness of environmental problems and issues. Through distribution of information, education, and activism, Environs encourages sound environmental practices within the university and the community of Lawrence.

From Blue to Green*

From Blue to Green is a campus and community wide, student-led movement towards a more sustainable KU. FB2G focuses on spreading awareness, educating, and enabling action. Comprised of over 20 environmentally focused, student organizations, FB2G stresses collaboration of students, faculty, and the community to bring about an ideological shift.

Kansas Association of Planning Students*

The Kansas Association of Planning Students is the student organization of the Graduate Program in the Urban Planning at the University of Kansas. KAPS organizes and sponsors social events, lectures, and planning-related volunteer opportunities in the Lawrence community.

Net Impact*

Net Impact is a global organization devoted to making a positive impact on society, the economy, and the environment through the power of business. Members will have the opportunity to engage in community service projects, network with local business leaders, and educate the local business community about social responsibility issues.

Potter Lake Project*

To bring attention to and mobilize support for the improvement of accessibility, aesthetics, water quality, and the ecosystem of Potter Lake on the University of Kansas campus.

Student Environmental Advisory Board*

Student Environmental Advisory Board (SEAB) acts on behalf of Student Senate to make recommendations and to provide assistance to the Environmental Stewardship Program by developing policies and formulating strategies to improve the campus environment and to initiate and/or enhance campus environmental programs. SEAB also works to raise awareness and seek student input on environmental issues and campus environmental programs.

Students Against Sweatshops*

KUSAS aims to end KU's participation in the sweatshop economy.

Students for Bar Recycling*

Students for Bar Recycling encourages environmentally friendly practices in local bars and restaurants through the creation and implementation of a sustainable recycling program. The group is working to create a network of bars that will participate in a glass recycling program and make efforts to be more sustainable such as encouraging patrons to drink draft beer served in reusable glassware.  Participating bars will receive the support, promotion, and endorsement by the student members of Students for Bar Recycling through various promotional events and outreach campaigns.

Students for Fair Trade, KU

Organization that works to increase awareness of fair trade among individuals in the KU and Lawrence communities.

Students for Global Awareness

The purpose of Students for Global Awareness (SGA) is to further enhance the cultural, social, and political growth of all students both in and out of the classroom. SGA also works to foster and celebrate the thriving international community inherent in the University of Kansas student body.

Students for Transit

Students for Transit is a group of active, concerned and aware students that promotes the improvement and use of mass transportation in Kansas.
